naysayersHave you ever stopped yourself from pursuing something you knew you were meant to do because someone said:

  • You can’t do it.
  • You are supposed to do it this way, not your way.
  • The timing doesn’t seem right for you to be successful on this.
  • This format doesn’t work unless you have ABC in place, which you don’t.
  • It’s too expensive.
  • It’s going to take so much work.
  • And so on…

I felt stuck many times by paying too much attention to naysayers. They could have been right or not, but by allowing myself to believe it was so, in a way made it so, and it blocked me from taking action.

For today’s self-love practice, look at your life right now, and see if there is anything you are not pursuing because someone else said you couldn’t. Just imagine yourself saying ‘thank you for your opinion’, and then let it go, and no longer internalize, dissect it or make it your truth.

Of course, depending on what’s at stake, you may consider asking for someone else’s opinion and doing additional research, just to be safe, without having to believe that it’s all doom and gloom. Even if they said they tried it and it didn’t work, it doesn’t mean that it’s not going to work for you. Remember to say “Thanks, but no thanks”, at least in your mind, the next time a naysayer tries to plant a negative seed in you.

Namaste,

Elisa

PS. In the book "Ask Others, Trust Yourself - The Entrepreneurial Woman's Key to Success" I wrote a chapter on what to do when you don't get the support you need to pursue your idea.
