Sand PoemI spent a weekend in a healing workshop in Cape May. During the weekend, I was able to notice how I was experiencing it all. How at times I felt confused, while other times I felt as clear as ever. I also made a decision beforehand that I would find joy in the little things, and I took the time to enjoy the paintings around the house where we were staying, and to be present with the group.

On Saturday evening I saw a warning note on the bathroom door (this blog post’s image) that started with Sand… I thought the note was a poem about sand, and I decided to read it carefully, imagining I’d be inspired with a cool message, perhaps something like:

“Sand…

Once it touches your feet, you know you arrived by the ocean. You can relax, let go of any worries, and find peace, as you listen to the sound of the waves. The sand supports you. It grounds you. It nurtures you. Appreciate it for it is silently and powerfully there for you. The Sand.”

Instead, it said

“Sand…

Even the smallest amounts build up and will destroy our pipes.

Please rinse off outside first. Thank you.”

I laughed on my own when I realized it wasn’t really a poem, but a very important instruction to the house guests. After laughing, I soon realized the deep message within the warning note, though.

It is important to wash away our sorrows, our stuff, and emotional baggage, before we go into someone’s house, even our own. It is important to clear our internal “pipes” so that the energy and our life force can flow with ease. Once the pipes are cleared we become more open to receiving and giving light and love. We become more open to expressing and sharing our messages with the world. When we wash away “the sand”, we release the chains that hold us back.

The next day at breakfast, I asked our teacher if I could have the floor before he started leading us through a meditation, and he agreed, not knowing what I was about to do. My intention was to bring joy and light to the group. I told everyone to pay close attention as I was going to share an inspiring poem called “Sand” I had discovered in the house the night before. The only issue was that I cracked myself up and barely could get through reading it. So, they asked me to read it again, and they agreed to the deeper message that the “poem” conveyed. Throughout the day, the workshop participants continued to quote from it, declaring their readiness to clear up their pipes.

I was happy I had shared the Sand “poem” with the group, and what stood out for me afterwards were the comments I received about my laughter and joy. The whole thing started as a joke, my idea of bringing light to the weekend, and it turned out to have a profound impact in many ways.

Clear the internal pipes from negative thoughts, self-doubt and judgment, by acknowledging it all and transforming it into self-love, self-acceptance, self-forgiveness and understanding.

Tips for Clearing Internal Pipes or "Rinsing off the Sand":

  • Set an intention to clear the pipes and embrace the emotions and feelings that may arise
  • Commit to a daily practice of pipe clearing
  • Connect with your intuition to decide the best practice or combination of practices

Some practices to consider:

  • Having a conversation with your higher self through journaling
  • Focusing on simply breathing for a few minutes
  • Meditating
  • Letting go of the defense mechanisms that hold you back – one at the time
  • Expanding your comfort zone – even if through reading a “fake” poem
  • Walking mindfully in nature
  • Moving
  • Singing and Dancing
  • Feeling your feelings
  • Laughing
  • Receiving body work - massage, core energetics, bio energetics, Reiki, Thai Yoga, healing energies...
  • Walking on Sand ; )

Please feel free to share your own method(s) of clearing your internal pipes.
